Development and Communications Manager
Zoey joined One Family in July 2018. In her role, Zoey works closely with the Director of Development and Communications to support One Family’s fundraising, outreach, and communications initiatives. Before coming to One Family, Zoey taught high school physics in Boston Public Schools. Zoey received an Ed.M. from University of Massachusetts Boston in 2017, and a B.A. in astrophysics & physics from Harvard in 2015.
Jonell joined One Family in January 2020 as the Coaching and Program Associate. In her role, Jonell works closely with One Family Scholars by offering academic support and career coaching. Prior to One Family, Jonell worked with young adults at Year Up for six years. Jonell received an A.A. in psychology from Bunker Hill Community College in 2016 and B.A. in psychology from Lesley University in 2019.
Shazia M. Khan
Shazia joined One Family in August 2019. In her role, Shazia works closely with the Executive Director to provide essential executive and operational support across the organization. Before taking on this role, Shazia was a One Family Scholar. She has worked with the Cambridge Public Schools and the City of Cambridge’s Center for Families for five years. Shazia also brings 16 years of work experience with the United Nations in Pakistan, and is currently on the Board of Refugee Immigration Ministry. Shazia received a B.A. in liberal arts from Lesley University in 2019, and an Executive M.B.A. in project management from Preston University Islamabad in 2003.
Director of Public Policy
Brad joined One Family in June 2018. In this role, he directs One Family’s policy and advocacy efforts to prevent family homelessness in Massachusetts. Brad is responsible for making the voices of homeless and at-risk parents and children heard throughout the state and for raising awareness among policymakers of the direct services provided by One Family. Prior to One Family, Brad worked as an attorney and policy advocate at state agencies and nonprofits serving vulnerable populations, and as a consultant providing legal and policy guidance to clients.
Director of Development and Communications
Shira joined One Family in September 2019. In her role, she manages fundraising, communications, and outreach work. Prior to One Family, Shira worked in fundraising at independent schools in Greater Boston and for the Anti-Defamation League of New England. Shira earned her bachelor’s degree in religious studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, a master of arts degree in Jewish studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a master of science in social work from Columbia University.
Emily joined One Family in July 2020 as a coach in the Credential to Career program. Prior to joining the team, she worked in workforce development, education, and program management with nonprofit organizations serving youth in the Boston area. She started her career as a public high school teacher in St. Louis and also worked in Boston Public Schools. As a coach, Emily works with participants to help them create career goals and actionable plans that will lead them and their families to financial stability. Emily holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in sociology from Boston College.
Judith joined One Family in March 2016. She oversees our coaching and curriculum development for both the One Family Scholars program and Credential to Career Coaching. In addition, she works with a small caseload of One Family Scholars. Prior to joining One Family, Judith was a high school teacher in a Title I school in North Philadelphia. Judith has a B.A. in international and global studies from Brandeis and an Ed.M. from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
Matthew joined One Family in June 2012. As Deputy Director he partners with the Executive Director to identify and develop new opportunities for One Family to increase our impact and engagement across Massachusetts. Prior to joining One Family, Matthew worked with parents through a variety of organizations including the Institute for Responsive Education, the Boston Parent Organizing Network, and the Family Support Program at the Tobin K-8 School in Roxbury. Matthew has a B.A. in English and education from Northeastern University and an Ed.M. from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Valerie joined One Family in 2006, and became Executive Director in 2012 after transitioning from her prior positions as Director of Program Development and Director of the One Family Scholars Program. Valerie received a B.A. in political science from Indiana University Bloomington. She also completed Boston University’s Nonprofit Management and Leadership program and is a member of LeadBoston. Prior to joining One Family, Valerie led human resources and recruiting efforts in the consulting sector for a decade.
Femi joined One Family in January of 2020 as a coach for the Credential to Career program. Prior to joining the team, Femi worked in higher education as an academic advisor and career counselor, and has extensive experience with advocacy and civic participation. Serving as a coach for the Credential to Career Program, Femi works to help C2C participants set goals and create an action plan that will enable them to attain economic self-sufficiency. Femi holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration from Bridgewater State University.
